My wife and I were just talking about doing this. I Googled who’d done it. Love this story. We just did San Jacinto peak and it was challenging. We did it, but it took an entire day (we got off trail twice and I’m a photographer so I definitely took extra time looking at bees and flowers and stuff). Since we live right next to Cowles (literally) we train on these mountains. Thanks for the tips.

Oh, that’s awesome!! Congrats. Big accomplishment. Hope you picked up your certificate and pin too. I am a (very amateur) photographer so I’m also prone to photo distractions. 🙂 I’ve since explored quite a few other trails in the Mission Trails park and they are great too.

Congratulations! I’ve been hiking Cowles and Pyles for years, but didn’t know about the other trails until recently! Just hiked Kwaay Paay this past MLK Jr. weekend: My favorite, so far! My husband and I decided we will do the “challenge,” spread out over a month or so. Curious: That is a long time to spend with a brand new friend! Did a friendship grow out of this experience?

Yes! That’ll be a fun way to keep exploring. Kwaay was hardest for me because it was when I was getting fatigued but hadn’t gotten my second wind yet, but loved it because it felt more separated and nature like. I like the valley before the Fortuna’s quite a bit too. Enjoy the challenge – it’s just plain fun. Ha! You are right, it was definitely a “hope we get along,” risk, but worked out great and really bonded during that time, and that was part of the enjoyment too. It’s interesting sharing so much with someone with someone you just met – but a full day of just you two, what else is there to do? 🙂 PS – My initials are LMB which I noticed is your moniker on here.
