I’m a strong believer that you rarely need as much as you think you do for travel or adventure activities. Case in point: I’ve spent the past month van-lifing in my Honda CRV (i.e. sleeping in it with an occasional tent night).

Sure, I wouldn’t turn down a nice Mercedes Sprinter Van, but the bed I “built” is shockingly comfortable and my CRV feels like home. For those interested here’s where I sleep and how I make my bed. It’s hard to describe without a video, but be gentle video is not my forte!

Where I Sleep: My CRV Van-Life Bed

How I Make My CRV Van-Life “Bed”

For fun, here’s how I make my bed. Sheets are clean as of yesterday and I’m actually excited to hop back in sometime in the next few weeks. (A few family activities and bed days at the current moment)

Base layer: Fitted and top sheet.
Layer 2: Sleeping Pad. This is more for storage. I don’t usually sleep ON IT.
Layer 3: My sleeping bag! Inside when it’s chilly on top or I just put it somewhere else when it’s warm.
My favorite layer: Cozy blanket from TJ Maxx. Favorite moments are sitting on top of everything else with just this blanket.
Final layer: Old shower curtain. Two purposes hide pillow and blanket that make it reallllly look like a bed and protect bedding from daily dirt etc. I put a storage container at the bottom part which makes it look even less bed-like.
