Sort of Legal

When you think of good Italian markets, chances are Florida isn’t the first location that comes to mind.  But Mazzaro’s Italian Market in St. Petersburg, Florida, referred to simply as “St. Pete” by Floridians, has been changing that view, one happy customer at a time.  I’m thrilled to report that after hearing about Mazzaro’s from my parents for years, I am now one of those customers.

MAZZARO’S HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Mazzaro’s is divided into eight departments: pasta, meat and seafood, cheese, bakery, gourmet imports, deli, and coffee.  Each would be impressive as a stand-alone market. Combined into one location, it’s a foodies’ dream.  It’s also a dream that can only be experienced in St. Pete because the owner’s say, they’re not going anywhere!

There are a lot of ways you can enjoy Mazzaro’s, you can:

  • Grab a pastry and enjoy it with coffee from freshly roasted beans at the coffee bar.
  • Pick-up your next favorite wine, a few unique beers, a couple small-farm sourced cheeses, and at least two types of meats for charcuterie board night your guests will rave about.
  • Pick from Mazzaro’s unique gourmet imports to create a unique gift, or a treat yourself to some upgraded cooking.
  • Order up a custom cut of meat at the deli, or take home one of Mazzaro’s pre-cut, pre-seasoned slices to make for an easy but delicious dinner.
  • Stock-up on house-made soups and pastas to heat up at home.
  • Order a sandwich or your favorite Italian offering (think: eggplant parmesan) along with a few sides like anti-pasta salad to enjoy on site.

…or embrace the moment, unbutton your pants and do it all!  If you like food, there’s something for you at Mazzaro’s, guaranteed.

Tips to Know Before You Go

  • Expect crowds.  You may not have heard about Mazzaro’s before, but a lot of other people have.  It’s a well-known culinary destination in St. Pete and beyond.  Some days are busy, others are busier.
  • Park in the lot.  There’s a large, but busy parking lot shared by Mazzaro’s Italian market and its sister business, Casa di Mazzaro, a tea and housewares store.  You should be able to find parking in it, even if it takes a few minutes to drive around.
  • Bring your camera.  From the bustling inside to the Italian murals outside to the mouthwatering deserts, there is plenty to take photos of at Mazzaro’s.  Just be a polite customer and stay aware of your surroundings so you’re not getting in anyone else’s way.
  • Order at Different Counters.  The different departments have different counters.  Order what you need from each and move on to the next.
  • Eat outside.  There are a few seating areas out front near the parking lot and a lot more seating on the covered back patio.  There’s also seating indoors at the coffee bar.
  • Bring a cooler.  It’s Florida.  Your car gets hot.  A cooler can help keep your goodies fresh and safe for eating, especially if you have a long drive ahead.
